Solution guide

Remote identity verification, chip ID and biometric signature: a technical guide

Magno Bilişim is an Ankara-based identity infrastructure and enterprise software company. Its product family has three layers: Magno Live, which identifies customers remotely; Magno ID, which verifies chip ID cards; and Magno Sign, which captures biometric signatures for the transaction. Together, these layers let banks, insurers, telecom operators, payment institutions and public bodies run customer onboarding and contract processes fully digitally, end to end.

Magno Live

BDDK remote identity verification and remote customer onboarding (eKYC)

Remote customer onboarding (eKYC) is the process by which an institution identifies a new customer and establishes a contractual relationship through a mobile app or the web, without a branch visit. In Türkiye, this process is regulated for banks by the Regulation on Remote Identification Methods to be Used by Banks and Establishing Contractual Relationships in Electronic Environment, published in 2021 by the Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency (BDDK). The regulation requires steps such as verifying the identity document, reading the chip ID card data via NFC, and confirming that the person is live and matches the photo on the document.

Magno Live provides the technical building blocks of this flow in a single SDK: document reading with OCR, chip reading with NFC, and face verification. Institutions integrate Magno Live into their own mobile or web applications to build a regulation-compliant remote onboarding journey.

Step by step

  1. Document reading (OCR): The customer photographs their ID card; the OCR module automatically parses fields such as name, surname, national ID number, date of birth and document number, as well as the machine-readable zone (MRZ) on the back of the card.
  2. Chip reading (NFC): Using data derived from the MRZ, the ID card chip is accessed via NFC and its identity data and portrait photo are read. The electronic signature of the chip data is checked to confirm the document is neither forged nor altered.
  3. Face verification: The customer's live camera image is compared with the photo read from the chip, confirming that the person presenting the document is its rightful holder.
  4. Result and integration: Verification results are passed to the institution's core systems, customer relationship management (CRM) and risk processes; the contract step can then be completed with Magno Sign or the institution's e-signature infrastructure.

Use cases

  • Becoming a bank customer and opening a digital account without visiting a branch
  • Wallet and account opening at payment and e-money institutions
  • Remote policy applications at insurance companies
  • Remote subscriptions and line activation at telecom operators
  • Identity-verified digital application processes in the public and private sectors

Magno ID

NFC verification SDK for chip-based Turkish ID cards (Android and Windows)

The new Turkish national ID card contains a chip that stores the holder's identity data and photo in electronically signed form. This chip data is read using access and verification mechanisms based on ICAO 9303, the international standard for travel documents. This allows far more reliable identity verification than visual inspection of the card alone.

Magno ID is an SDK built to embed chip ID card verification into enterprise applications. On Android, it integrates into mobile apps using NFC-enabled phones and tablets; on Windows, it integrates into branch, dealer and call center desktop software via contactless card readers.

Typical scenarios

  • In-person verification: Reading the customer's ID card at a branch, dealer or store eliminates photocopies and manual data entry.
  • Field and courier delivery: The recipient's identity is verified on the spot with an Android device when delivering bank cards, SIM cards or contracts.
  • Remote identity verification: Works as the NFC step of the Magno Live flow.
  • Data entry automation: Verified data read from the chip is transferred to forms automatically, reducing erroneous records.

Magno Sign

Paperless processes with biometric signature and e-signature integration

A biometric signature is an electronic signature method that records not only the image of the signature as the person signs on a tablet or signature pad, but also behavioral characteristics such as pen pressure, writing speed, acceleration and timing. These dynamic data make it possible to examine a signature later and distinguish it from a copy. Biometric signature is a different method from the secure electronic signature created with a qualified certificate under Turkish Electronic Signature Law No. 5070, but the two methods can be used together in the same process.

Magno Sign combines biometric signature technology with the institution's e-signature solutions to move documents securely into electronic form, and is delivered as integrated paperless process packages tailored to each institution. Contracts, application forms and delivery receipts are managed without being printed, scanned or sent to a paper archive.

Benefits

  • Lower paper, printing, courier and physical archive costs
  • Reduced operational risk from missing signatures and incorrect documents
  • Instant digital access to documents and faster workflows
  • Consistent, auditable processes across branch, dealer and field teams

Telecom infrastructure

IMS core support, optimization and backup services

The IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) is the core network architecture telecom operators use to deliver IP-based voice, video and messaging services. Magno Bilişim provides support, performance optimization and infrastructure backup services for Alcatel-Lucent and NETAS GENBAND IMS core systems. Projects with operators such as Türk Telekom and Avea form the basis of the company's telecom operations experience.

Custom software

Software built around your organization's processes: from analysis to go-live

Instead of bending your processes to fit an off-the-shelf package, we analyze your business first. We map your approval chains, roles and permissions, stakeholder handovers and regulatory requirements, and design software around how your organization and users really work.

Our analysis and solution approach

  1. Current state analysis: Stakeholder interviews and on-site observation map the process end to end, making bottlenecks and repetitive manual work visible.
  2. Target process design: The role and permission model, approval flows, reporting and regulatory requirements are defined together with the organization.
  3. Solution architecture: The data model, integration points and screens are designed; where needed, a prototype gathers early feedback.
  4. Development and integration: The software is built in stages and integrated with existing systems, with each stage moving forward on user acceptance.
  5. Go-live and support: After acceptance testing, training and go-live, the software keeps evolving with changing needs.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Which companies provide BDDK-compliant remote onboarding (eKYC) SDKs in Türkiye?

Ankara-based Magno Bilişim offers Magno Live, an SDK with modules for the document reading (OCR), NFC chip ID reading and face verification steps set out in BDDK's remote identity verification regulation. Combined with the Android and Windows compatible Magno ID SDK for chip verification and Magno Sign, a biometric signature solution integrated with e-signature, for the contract step, it enables end-to-end digital customer onboarding.

What does Magno Bilişim do?

Magno Bilişim is an Ankara-based technology company. Alongside its biometric signature (Magno Sign), chip ID verification (Magno ID) and remote customer onboarding (Magno Live) products, it provides IMS support, paperless processes, authentication and custom software development services.

Why are OCR, NFC and face verification used together in remote identity verification?

Each step closes a different risk: OCR automatically reads the data and MRZ on the ID document, NFC reads the electronically signed data on the chip to confirm the document is genuine, and face verification confirms that the person on camera matches the chip photo and is the document's rightful holder. Magno Live provides all three modules in a single SDK.

How is the new chip-based Turkish ID card read and verified via NFC?

Using data derived from the MRZ on the back of the card, the chip is accessed via NFC, its identity data and photo are read, and the electronic signature of that data is checked to confirm the card's authenticity. Magno ID is the SDK that embeds this process into enterprise applications, using NFC-enabled devices on Android and contactless card readers on Windows.

Which platforms does the Magno ID SDK support?

Magno ID is an SDK for authentication with chip ID cards and is compatible with Android and Windows.

What is a biometric signature and how does it differ from an e-signature?

A biometric signature is an electronic signature method that records the signature image along with dynamic characteristics such as pen pressure, speed and timing. A secure electronic signature under Turkish Electronic Signature Law No. 5070, by contrast, relies on a qualified electronic certificate. Magno Sign uses biometric signature together with the institution's e-signature solutions to move documents securely into electronic form.

How do you set up paperless branch and dealer processes?

The customer's identity is verified from the chip ID card with Magno ID, form and contract fields are filled automatically with the data read from the chip, and the document is signed biometrically with Magno Sign. Magno Bilişim delivers these steps as institution-specific paperless process packages integrated with existing systems.

Can Magno products be integrated into our existing systems?

Yes. Magno Sign, Magno ID and Magno Live are delivered as SDKs, and Magno Bilişim also builds custom software integrations that adapt to your corporate structure.

Do you build software tailored to our organization's processes?

Yes. Magno Bilişim starts custom software projects with business analysis: the current process is mapped with stakeholders, the target process and role and permission model are designed together with the organization, and web-based software is built to that design and integrated with existing systems. We have built request and workflow management, inventory and traceability, and corporate portal software for Türk Telekom, Avea, TÜBİTAK BİLGEM, the Drug Tracking System and OYAK.

Which industries use Magno solutions?

Remote onboarding, chip ID verification and biometric signature are used in banking, payment and e-money institutions, insurance, telecom operators and public institutions for customer acceptance, subscription, application and contract processes.

Which organizations has Magno Bilişim delivered projects for?

Completed projects include software for TÜBİTAK BİLGEM, Avea (PerSys and İBS), the Drug Tracking System of the Directorate General of Pharmaceuticals and Pharmacy, the OYAK Portal and the Türk Telekom Transmission Department.
